New Years Resolutions, plans or goals |
Cojak |
Whether we make them, believe in them or consider them, the words are always here at the beginning of a new year.
I think all of us as Christians always want to draw closer and do more for the Kingdom. Some even 'resolve to do it' others of us think it is a great idea and it is.
But on the secular side it isn't a bad idea to do something we have procrastinated about. Bringing up my Brother Carl again, besides the spiritual plans, he says, "I plan to clean out my garage!"
ME? I have a BIG plan In the next few weeks I plan to Back pack and attempt to 'thru hike' the Appaltchian Trail. I am 84 years old this month. My wife and I have backpacked 1800 miles of the trail over a period of 6 miles, doing 900 miles in one summer.
Funny thing about this, I carried 145 pounds when I was in my 60s, now 25 pounds feels like 100 pounds. My wife has her doubts, especially since I am going to start in the winter. It will take me at least 7 months to do it, IF I CAN! I can be alone with the Lord and enjoy his creation.
My starting date has been slid further out to the 26th of January. I am doing this to be able to go to court with a person close to me. He is facing 20 years in prison and a huge fine. I would appreciate your prayers on both things.

Do you plan anything special for 2023?

Cojak,
I hope you have a way to keep in touch with everyone. That is quite an undertaking for anyone! Please let us know how you're doing if you can.
The Lord has made it clear to me that I need to get my physical house in order this year. I'm still thinking and praying about how to accomplish this because it's not my strong suite, and after I get home from work, most days I am too tired to do much of anything. I've always struggled in this area. I'm either REALLY organized or really NOT organized.
I also intend to work on the devotional book I feel I'm supposed to be writing.
I don't usually do a list of goals/resolutions anymore because it usually doesn't really help me. But those are the two main things on my heart right now for 2023. _________________ "More of Him...less of me."

I have tried to find a good tracking system,we just finally decided I will take the cell phone and text when I have a signal.. I usually get a signal at a summit. Then again I might not get but a few miles. I know at 84 lots of things can go wrong. But Imma try.
georgiapath... You are right about if it ain't broke..etc.. This is something I have wanted to do, I hope it works and I don't break something. LOL
Love the Lord and Praise him for his goodness. He has been so good to me.... Thanks for the notes. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

OK, I am back with my tail between my legs.
I was using a sleeping bag for ZERO. I am warmblooded person but I was freezing for 4 days. I only hiked 27 miles. 12 of it was 'wrongway' and lost. Two things I have said was impossible. LOL
I could not get a fire going the dead limbs were filled with water and frozen. I walked by a A giant frozen wall, 100 ft wide and 30 ft high. I was cold.
I should NEVER have assumed I could carry 40 pounds in freezing weather. LOL
I told my wife If I mentioned this again, 'Just shoot me!'
To be sure, I feel pretty STUPID.

Cojak - Don't be so hard on yourself! I am really impressed that you even tried this. I would have never in all my life had tried something like this. Let's just say I am not an outdoors kinda person! LOL
I'm so glad to hear you are back safely! I have been concerned about you. Thanks for reporting in & letting us know you're okay.
So this was not the right adventure for you...what's next (aside from getting warm)? _________________ "More of Him...less of me."

I finally relized I was young 60's guy with my gal when we backpacked the 1800+ miles early in our lives. LOL
Love to everyone and enjoy the great life God has given us... _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!
