The problem with the emerging church is that they, with a prideful arrogance, condemn every church movement that came before them - as if the Fog Machine church is the answer to all that is wrong in the church world.

Stage presence is their Anointing

Wow! It’s been my experience that it's the other way around. This thread, for an example. |

How long have you been able to read the hearts of these people? Honestly, I’ve seen it the other way around. It’s usually the “older†churches that feel their way is God’s way, and anyone doing it differently is compromised. I pastored that church. I’ve dealt with that attitude.
So the container looks different. The contents are the same. The Gospel of Jesus Christ, anointed by the Holy Spirit, winning a younger generation by speaking their language. Paul called becoming all things to all people so that by all means he may save some.
We took in 34 new members in a church you’d probably call “a nightclubâ€. We just baptized 11 new believers. We have new people coming to Jesus weekly. God is moving, but it doesn’t look like 1960 COG.
I see the harvest, and it is being gathered in. _________________ The World As I See It

I’m 57 and that describes the church in pastor. Why because I don’t care about the color of the paint. My 70 year old’s not care about the lighting. We all care about the unchurched. If Christians don’t like our paint they can find plenty of churches they will like. We do several hymns, but don’t use hymnals.
My question is who cares. If you are going to be traditional or contemporary do it all for the glory of God. Like in the Grocery store I’m not sure God Cares if it is paper or plastic. It is just the package. Make sure the message is right. _________________ DOW MOSES |

How is the society doing where all of our churches are at?
Is it becoming more like heaven on earth or hell on earth?
That's how to tell how effective the church is.
We judge Sodom and Gomorrah as being "evil" - but what about ourselves? Perhaps it's time to look in the mirror and see what we are missing.
The church is like the Republican party regarding deficit spending. They are good at complaining about it - but not very effective at doing anything about it. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

This kind of religious rhetoric is absolutely eating away at the Church of God. The next generation is more concerned about the Great Commission than they are maintaining tradition. The spirit behind this kind of post is causing that generation to leave the Church of God in droves. We can hide our head in the sand if we choose, but we are in decline in the United States. We are an aging church with a declining pipeline of younger ministers. Our churches are generally in decline, the pastorate and laity are aging, and our facilities are in disrepair. I know that there are exceptions, but what I describe is the norm. |

I mentioned in another thread that we should revisit the purpose of camp meeting. If it's simply to celebrate the past heritage of the COG then I think it's perfectly fine to sing the old songs and do things the way they did in eras gone by. Honestly, I can worship God regardless of it's the Redback, Hillsong, or some African tribal music.
In the end, what we see here is what divides many churches. Most churches do not divide over doctrine, they divide over personal preferences. I pastor a church that has two very strong elements- one very traditional, and one progressive. We have two services to accommodate both factions. It grieves my heart but it is what it is.
Division over style and preferences is a classic indication of carnality. |

My experience |
Mark Ledbetter |
If you suffer from neuropathy, feet numb, etc., you need light to keep your balance. In a recent service, the lights out in congregation, slanted floor, I grew tired trying to keep balance and sat down.
I remember a time when wearing perfume became an issue and our congregation gladly, for the sake of others who reacted to the scents, gave up perfume to meet the needs of others.
I don't think some would have the sacrificial mindset.
As for getting them in, when did that become the mandate? I thought we were suppose to go out to them and bring them in. Depending on music, light shows, etc., should not be an attraction like a carnival or theater or concert.
Someone with a better side-show will steal your congregation. _________________ God-Honoring

I like the way that is said. I think that is a true statement.
