What IS the secret/mystery in the NT? |
Aaron Scott |
I have often wondered what, exactly, IS the secret/mystery which is mentioned in the NT? Is it one secret? Multiple secrets?
I'd like to get your thoughts.
Quote: | (Matthew 13:34 KJV) All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:
(Matthew 13:35 KJV) That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
(Mark 4:11 KJV) And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
(Romans 11:24 KJV) For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
(Romans 11:25 KJV) For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
(Romans 16:25 KJV) Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
(1 Corinthians 2:7 KJV) But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
(Ephesians 3:9 KJV) And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
(Ephesians 6:19 KJV) And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
(Colossians 1:26 KJV) Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
(Colossians 1:27 KJV) To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
(1 Timothy 3:16 KJV) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Amen.
I have been wondering if the "mystery" is this: "God has a Son"?
No one knew that before Jesus showed up. Or at least it doesn't appear anyone put all the prophecies together in a way that would open their eyes.
What say you? |

Yes, and as far as I recall, every one of the different things spoken of as a mystery in the NT is something integrally related to the gospel of Jesus Christ. |

IMO, it is much more than just the fact that He has a Son. It is the fact of how that Son has changed everything for the better. He Jesus brought into being a New Covenant, or as Paul says; A better Way.
No longer are we bound by the Old Covenant. Jesus broke the curse, He took on the curse for us, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree".
The New Covenant is so far better than the Old.
Oh, I'm about to shout right here.
