Post Church bores me...... caseyleejones
No, the title says it all. The title is not an attention grabber. FYI, I have been in the highest leadership at this church. It was a church that was migrating toward relational and missional living and small groups. It also pushed for diversity of leadership across the board. While it did have its senior leader, the church body did the work of the ministry. It wasn't pastor focused or top level leader focused.

However, due to circumstances, that has changed. It is more centralized and top down model. The focus is on Sunday morning services and how to get the Holy Spirit to "move". .....play the right songs.....music loud....platform focused..... people are getting lost in the mix.

My wife and I have not done well in churches set up as such even though 90% of churches operate that way. By the way, that does not mean this type of church is wrong. In fact, many churches are doing it this way and doing well.

I have talked to the top guy on the board about this. Really, what is he supposed to say.

By the way...all great people. But I find myself going to an hour and half service and leaving bored while attempting to avoid being trampled on my way out.....no relational or missional push...not small groups......just going on Sunday morning as a spectator.....like most everyone else.

Since they aint no perfect church, could it be that at least some a the reason for ya boredom is you? This post aint intended to be mean or harsh or nothin, but it can't always be the church's fault? but no, we have not been in quite a few churches...we have moved geographically thereby causing us to look for a new church. We would try a church for a season. If it was a top down structure....it did not go well with us. Then we would look for another where the church was more missional and relational.....we did well.

Yes, it is safe to say the boredom is with me. But then it is safe the say that if a churches finances are focused on Sunday morning as well as the certain few at the top that lead us, I would say there might be more blame to spread. As I mentioned, the church as a whole is becoming more service focused.

So yeah.....I am bored.....but when a small few run the operation from at front and the other 80% are expected to attend and tithe......there is this nagging question.....is this really what church is about?

Yes I did....great book. I am all for progress. But, a church reverting back to a top down, Sunday focused, Sunday exhibition makes me think there is a regression taking place.

As I mentioned, most churches operate under this model..sunday focused.... I guess I want to know how the NT church operated and if this was the model they settled on.

We had a great small group ministry at one time that was growing. I was sad to see that go..

Maybe you aren't satisfied because you weren't designed to go to church and just be a spectator. I can't find where the Bible teaches us to do that.

VERY true. Unless you have moved into a new area (or even just traveling) you have no idea what CLJ is saying here. In the past few weeks we have traveled (as usual). Our churches have always been SUNDAY oriented for the core, but now it does seem ALL attention is the morning 'WORSHIP' vs week WORSHIP.

Usually I feel like an observer of a 'show'. I must always give the disclaimer of my hearing. Since I miss most that is said, I am not a reliable judge, but I know my feelings. Embarassed Embarassed

Post I once wrote a song,, "Sunday Morning Pep Rally" Methocostal
described what you were saying. Sway to music, but when Monday comes, nothing has changed.

Far too many Churches, and I think Pentacostals are the worst, where church amounts to little more than a pep rally, lots of hooping hollering, swaying to the music, a form of Godliness, but not a life changing effect. Stirred, but not changed.

The Church is in serious condition and the doctors are sleeping in the pulpit thinking if the Church has an emotional response, all is good. I'm sorry, but all is not good. There is a form of Godliness going on, but at the end of the day, there is no change. No TRUE ministry, but lots of Sunday morning entertaining.

I'm sorry, but that is what I think.

Yes sir, I know some folk who stay in 'one church most of their lives'. One, a brother who is even some kin to me, told me, "I'm saying, the preacher ain't worth a dime, but he ain't running me off. I have outlasted some worse and some better'n him!"

Shocked
