Yes, it's fine if you don't wear Bermuda shorts or Daisy Duke's Smile

Seriously I suppose if we were under the law we could do cut it on Sunday but not Saturday.

But least you offend someone just don't cut it Very Happy

Only if one subscribes to the idea that Sunday is the Christian Sabbath, and the OT rules against working on the Sabbath apply to us under the New Covenant.

Post My Baptist neighbor thinks so brotherjames
When I first moved to NC in 2001, it had been raining during the week and by Sunday afternoon my yard needed cutting. I came home after church, changed into some old clothes pulled out my mower and was about to start mowing when my neighbor suddenly appeared out of nowhere (guess he had been watching out his side window aghast at this pentecostal heretic about to work on the sabbath) ( although I had just preached two services and been up for 7 hours already working on Sunday). He breathlessly exclaims "I'll be happy to cut your yard for you tomorrow if you like", no said I , thanks but I can do it, oh no he says, really I'll be happy to cut it tomorrow, no says I it's fine teally, and he says no I really want to do it for you tomorrow. You must be tired from preaching. Well, ok if you insist I said. I thought he just wanted to bless me. I put my mower away and went inside and suddenly it hit me. It's Sunday. He thinks it's a sin to cut the grass on Sunday. I told my wife this is good, I think I'll pull out the mower every Sunday from now on. I'll never have to mow again. Ha! Acts-celerater

If one believes the ten commandments are all binding on Gentiles the same as they are on the Jews under the law, then mowing the lawn could be a way of obeying the commandments:

'Six days shalt thou labor'....

What we call 'Sunday' is the first day of the week, not the seventh.

I don't mow grass on Sundays because I know my neighbors would take offense and view it as disrespectful to God. But I don't believe there is any biblical support for Sabbath-observance binding upon New Testament Christians. No one really keeps the Sabbath as defined in the Bible anyway. Folks didn't go to church on the Sabbath day in the OT. The same ones who would cry foul over mowing a lawn on Sunday would think nothing of having their wives slave over a hot stove cooking their meal and cleaning up after them.

Not to mention, even in my old age, I'd be afraid my dad would ride by and catch me Laughing . Even when I was young and he was not a person of faith, he refused to do any kind of outside work on Sunday. His father was the same way.

I guess no more sin than to walk from a parked car into the all-ya-can-eat buffet.

My maternal grandfather was a drunk. We were with him in N. Fl on Sunday at a place you could see fish in the water. We asked if we could fish. He said; no boys it is Sunday. I suppose He thought it was a sin.

The Old Testament says the sabbath is a time for 'holy convocation.'

Leviticus 23:3
Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

It is only a sin for the preacher, if he gets caught.!!!!

But no, I see no see no sin there.! Most non-Christians think the idea is good, but would draw a line in a subject.

But the no, of the mower would distract folks from their rest time.

It is not a great idea to for a gudance, but fireworks

If this is a debate. Teaching is sorely needed.

That was a cheap shot Brad. Much beneath you.

I have been in many SS classes where the discussions run amuck (Even happens quite often here!), and in many ways folk were taught! Probably in this case maybe some eyes were opened. Cool

There was nothing cheap about it.

These folks don't understand:
a. The Sabbath.
b. That we are not under law.
c. How Jesus fulfilled the law.

These are pretty basic concepts. I use opportunities like this as teaching points with my children and people in a church setting. If we don't use situations like this as indicators of areas where teaching is needed, we will still be debating this issues 2,000 after the cross. 15 years after the cross, the apostles were still debating whether Gentiles had to be circumcised to be saved...it wasn't a cheap shot to see that Paul had work to do teaching them about the new covenant.

You over-reacted to my statement.

Right on. "Brad" and "cheap shot" go together like white on rice.

Post I mow mine FLRon
Whenever it needs it,irregardless of the day of the week. I would ask a follow up question to your study group: suppose it had rained for several days in a row and the forecasts were calling for one clear day, which just happened to be Sunday. It's supposed to start raining again Sunday afternoon so your one window to mow is Sunday morning. Do you miss church to mow? If you're the pastor,of course you can't, but would you excuse your congregants from church?

You see Brad, I assumed since the discussion came up that teaching did occur. You seemed to assume that there was none and that the parishioners were still ignorant of Sabbath and Sunday.

I thought DaSheik posted to see the reaction on the forum. From the pew I enjoy that type of discussion to try to separate the Law from Grace. I considered the place (SS) of the discussion and thought 'What a great discussion point.' But I am a small thinker. Embarassed Embarassed
