Actually, Heaven says trust in Christ for the forgiveness of sins. This is a fundamental and CRUCIAL correction to the statement in the quote.
We do not and cannot ever attain righteousness by abandoning our sin. But if we abandon all hope that we can ever abandon sin apart from him and cast the whole of ourselves into the arms of his mercy, he will save us and purify us and change us into people who, by his grace, can live forsaking sin and embracing righteousness.
The answer to sin, even for the believer, is never to try to abandon it. It is to confess it and receive forgiveness for it, so that with the ensuing grace of God we can repent of it. |
