The study suggests that only 11% of COG constituents have college degrees. If ya deduct all the preachers what touts either unaccredited or honery docterates, my gootness an all, that only leaves 4% a the whole denomination with any kinda academic degree. |

God sometimes uses the weak and uneducated to do great things. |

I thought is was sad that the COG came in last and then I remembered this passage in 1 Corinthians and it encouraged and gave me hope.
1 Corinthians 1: 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[c]
20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”[d] |

According to the last list of the Top 25 largest U.S. Denominations, the bottom of that list is also among the largest denominations in America.
The COG was like 21st or 23rd but the Southern Baptists, AG, COGIC, etc. were among the largest in America.
Perhaps there is an "every-man" quality to our movements as the AG and COG were two of the only denominations to have reported growth and not decline or stagnation.
I have a Bachelor degree myself, along with some continuing education, and greatly desire more. Learning is a really big deal! I also appreciate that there are some things that do not come from a book (other than the Scripture) but rather come by the Spirit of the Living God. I don't think that it would be a bad thing if as we move forward, our ministers were encouraged to seek and get understanding, including academic understanding. _________________ Proverbs 3:5-6; John 13:34-35; Acts 1:8 |

Also, according to that poll, only 27% of US adults are college educated. So 3/4 are not.
The AG and COG seem to be reaching "the masses". _________________ Proverbs 3:5-6; John 13:34-35; Acts 1:8 |

It is interesting to note that according to the results of this survey, higher levels of education do not always come with wisdom or truth. Hindu, Buddhist, Unitarian Universalist, and a slew of ultraliberal 'Christian' denominations being more highly educated than us dumb evangelicals shouldn't make us evangelicals insecure for a moment. |

77% of Hindus have college degrees and they have million of gods and worship rat's! So much for a college education! I know a lot of people who have college degrees that don't have enough common sense to open a box of Cracker jacks! _________________ Ronnie Lingerfelt A/K/A 4 golf. |

Evidently it takes a great deal of graduate education to come to the conclusion that a sodomite is a good choice to lead a church (or at least a choir).

Education has not a thing to do with what you describe, Mat, no more than education ruined Homer. Some folk is wacky from the womb. |

"When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus." Acts 4:13
Although, I would think Matthew was schooled and perhaps Judas. |
