A rhetorical question for Christians |
Ernie Long |
Why do we care who will be the POTUS since...
Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Ephesians 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
At times Christians are like Peter in Matthew 16:21-23 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
I enjoy the things of this country and I really don't want to lose any of the privileges that ALL people who live here enjoy. But... James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
I don't remember reading in the Bible where Jesus came to change the world by who was the emperor, because I believe it didn't matter to Him, so why should it matter to us?
Philippians 3:17-21 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. |

Because we like to rejoice rather than groan.
Proverbs 29:2New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice;
but when the wicked rule, the people groan. |

I would love to see this happen, but come on... which candidate is righteous? And if they are now, they won't be long after moving into the white House. |

None but Jesus brother. There are a couple that I believe look to Him though, and a few that I don't. I think W still does, even after being in the White House for 8 years (he was far from perfect, but those 8 years had a lot more rejoicing than the last 8 have). So yeah, I still want to rejoice rather than groan |

It is always right to stand for what is right, and to stand against what is not right. Jesus calls us to be salt and light, to be the leaven that in due course spreads throughout the whole loaf. Thankfully, conscientious Christians such as Wilberforce didn't take a defeatist approach to the politics of slavery in his day. Christians are called to promote the highest good of all (unselfish goodwill towards all) in this world. That certainly includes doing our best to work for what is right in our society to the extent possible. |

Rom 13:1-7 NIV Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. (2) Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. (3) For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. (4) For the one in authority is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God's servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. (5) Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. (6) This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. (7) Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.[/i] |

everyone has an opinion righteous or not. Saint, sinner, reprobate and atheist. Even Ministers and fellow Christians have opinions, and we are prone to express them.
Can anyone on this board sway anyone else's opinion here, I doubt it. Most of us don't want anyone else's facts we all have our mind made up what direction we are going to go, whether we know the exact person or not.
Of course I will live, pay taxes and vote in this, the greatest country in the world. Would I like to have a righteous man or group in charge, OF COURSE; but as has been mentioned righteous is not likely in the present political world. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

Thanks, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
You ran the smartest, most honest Christian man in the bunch out of the race.
Ben Carson deserved better.
All you folks from those states should be ashamed.
Guess I will have to go to my second choice.
Perhaps more will drop before Florida votes and make it easy for me. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

I believe Ben Carson is a good guy. He had tons of money from what I've heard, and somebody needs to look into how it was managed. I don't think he is at fault there, but I'm concerned that someone stole most of it.
I'm beyond curious as to who he will endorse. As an "outsider/conservative" it should be Cruz but it won't be because he has an ax to grind. You'd think it would be Rubio next, but something tells me its going to be Trump. |
