Did John Mark run nude in the night? |
bonnie knox |
Mark 14:51-53
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. |

Yes. Doyle told me he was with Mary Magdalene. |
Nope, Doyle stretched the truth on at one, Tom. Maggie was already saved by that time. |

Bonnie, what are your thoughts on this and why do you identify him as John Mark? |

Hello Bro Bob,
Good to hear from you again.
My thoughts in posting this weren't deep at all. I was prompted by Doyle's thread in which he suggested that Mary Magdalene might have posed nude (which I thought was just a weak partisan attempt to justify the First Lady) and wondered if there was scripture about anyone who truly was described as being nude and the reference came to mind about the young man who "left his garment and fled."
I knew scripture didn't identify him, and I couldn't really remember if John Mark was the correct name given by those who speculated on who it was. I actually started doing a web search on that part, but then said to myself, "Forget it, just pose it as a question."
So, I have wondered why the incident was recorded at all unless it was just a little autobiographical info by Mark (who may or may not have been one and the same as John Mark) who would have remembered the details of feeling like he was making a narrow escape.
Any significance to me is just that most of the followers of Jesus were fleeing or denying Jesus that night which affirmed the words that Jesus had earlier said:
Mark 14:27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

If anyone ever poses nude - it is for sure we needn't think they are of any future value to America.
I can live with that position - as long as it is across the board.
Most Hollywood types have stripped down in the name of art - so please - they must also forfeit their voice in America.
And please forward my thanks to Melania - she did us all a big favor.
Ashley Judd, Miley Cyrus, Meryl Steep, Richard Gere, Melania etc... all please keep your piehole shut. You can never speak again. A very fair trade imho. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

Is that what Doyle was doing? I didn't get that impression. Perhaps you can quote for me the part where he was justifying the first lady posing nude. |

I didn't say he tried to justify her posing nude; I said "attempt to justify the First Lady"--her as a person. In other words, the people that are associated with Trump are A-OK, but anyone who puts up an obstacle for him, such as Megyn Kelly, is to be called to task for her horrible-looking overbearing ego.

In addition to that, the whole point in comparing Melania to one of Jesus' most devoted disciples was to paint Melania in a favorable light. Unfortunately, the comparison seemed a bit lacking because we don't know if the two women are alike (i.e., we don't have any evidence that Mary Magdalene posed nude), and I don't know that Melania is known for her devotion to Christ. (Of course, I'm not saying she is or is not a Christian.)

Ok. I apologize for not using the correct wording. Maybe Doyle can correct me on this but I thought he was saying that Melania's past doesn't necessarily have to prevent her from becoming a good disciple of Christ and used by God now or the future. This is if/when she becomes a Christian, if she hasn't already.
Actually, and this is somewhere along the lines of NBF's sarcasm, as far as being used of God, the Trumps don't even have to saved (e.g. Pharaoh, Cyrus,....)
By the way, the past 8 years, I prayed for Obama too.

Furthermore, in case you are not aware, a thread was deleted which discussed a COG seminary professor who had brought up the topic of Melania posing nude, in his words, "It certainly was not intended to objectify women or promote pornography but to point out the glaring hypocrisy of those who criticized Michelle Obama for wearing a sleeveless dress."
It was after that thread was deleted, that Doyle made the comparison of Mary Magdalene and Melania.
I can't imagine anyone on Acts thinking that God continues to hold past sins against us once we've repented and gotten saved. Is there ANYONE saying that God's forgiveness doesn't cover sins??????? |

Thanks for the info. I do not recall seeing the post you mentioned above. But to your question, I feel sure everyone who posts on here knows about Christ's forgiveness. However, it seems what people know about forgiveness of sin and what they write and live out are at times in contradiction. |

Bonnie, sorry to be so long getting back. I had this same question posed to me by a teacher I regard highly. No idea why he asked me to look at it, he does not know there is an acts-celerate so the various posts about nudity had nothing to do with it. That is why I was curious about your thoughts, as I also regard you highly as a fellow searcher of scripture.
Analytical Bob went to the same root that you did. Due to the oft focused upon story of Peter's denial which followed the scripture you sited, those words where Christ predicts correctly the dispersal of all his followers, and his notation of this having been prophesied (Zech 13:7) kind of just lays right out there in the open, but rarely commented on. We fuss at Peter, but at least he was there.
I have read commentary that it was not uncommon for a man who was in his bed asleep, often naked (before fruit-of-the-loom), would rise with his bed clothes as covering and go see what some night-time disturbance was.
I have my doubts that it was one of the disciples, since he is referred to as "a follower of Christ" rather than "a disciple of Christ."
But that is merely my sense of the matter, and my best effort to explain how I came to the conclusion.
